The Taj Mahal is considered one of the most romantic monuments in the world. Built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan after the death of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, this white marble mausoleum is considered a monument to eternal love. Lovers from across the world, flock to see this architectural marvel and admire its radiant beauty. The white marble surface of the Taj Mahal changes its appearance with the passing of the seasons. It glows brightly in the sunlight in summer and reflects the grey-clouded sky during the monsoon. Under the light of the full moon however, the Taj Mahal is said to appear at its best – shimmering like a fairytale castle built for a legendary princess. Although until a few years back the night viewing of Taj Mahal wasn’t allowed, but in 2004 the government lifted the 20 year long ban and allowed for an initial viewing for three months after which it was made permanent. It is now allowed for 5 nights in a month.
Tourists can view the Taj Mahal from a distance of 500m, from a nearby red sandstone platform. Tourists are permitted to carry still cameras for photography and binoculars for viewing. Night viewing of Taj Mahal has been allowed from 2004 for five nights in a month including the Full Moon night and two days before and two days after except Fridays and month of Ramzan. Night viewing is allowed between 20.30 – 00.30 hrs only.
A maximum no. of 400 people in eight batches of 50 persons each, shall only be allowed to view the Taj, on any one night.
Each group shall be allowed to view the Taj Mahal for a duration of 30 minutes only.
The visitors of the night viewing of Taj Mahal have to report at Shilpagram complex half an hour in advance of the viewing
time. The entry is allowed from the Eastern Gate of the Taj Mahal only after security check near the Eastern gate.
Night Viewing of the Taj Mahal is closed in the month of Ramzan and on every Friday.
